I don't always agree with him, especially about Trump.
He is open and upfront about his biases and will tell you when he doesn't know something and when he is guessing.
He also is quick to admit when he makes a mistake.

NO! The current distress is simply stated: we are in a social war: the people want to control their govt; the govt wants to control the people - and they seem to have the upper hand. When GW Bush came into the WH the MSM ran stories that he was interfering with State Dept foreign policy. Can you see it now? ...things have progressed a lot worse since.
In some states the courts have made it clear that parents have no rights to say what is taught in their schools or even to know if educators are molesting and mutilating their children. ...a lot worse. If someone stands up AG Merrick Garland will send an FBI SWAT team to force them on their knees, arrest them or kill them. The GOP is not condoning this power grab but they are not really fighting it as a party, just as they are not going to the courts to stop the persecution of Donald Trump.
Like the 'Rat Party, the GOP does not trust its voters to select the right candidate(s). They are trying to rig their presidential nominating convention to exclude Donald Trump.
It is becoming warfare between the people and their government - that simple.

It’s an interesting point on land ownership. While there is fee simple ownership (fee hold) just like we have in the continental US there is also a large amount of leasehold property. There are (were?) multiple properties with condominium complex sitting on them which are leasehold.
Prior to his passing last year my Brother lived in Lahaina for over 25 years working as a real estate agent and commercial property manager. He had pointed out to me that several of the leasehold were coming to the end of their term. The families that actually own the land these condominiums sit on had seen their grandparents/great grandparents grant the lease hold for peanuts many decades ago.
These condo complexes are worth tens of $ millions but don’t own the land they are built on and the families that own it, who had been rebuffed at every request to renegotiate the leasehold terms, were in essence going to build the ‘back payments’ they felt due into any new lease hold agreement. The condo complexes have little choice but to pay; the alternative is to either walk away or tear down the complex and return the property to the
condition prior to the leasehold being granted.
I have no idea how the fires and the property loss would impact insurance payments under those circumstances; some of the lease holds expire next year and more to follow within five years.

Two weeks ago, He Mei (Linda He), the owner of the largest Immigration Agency in the PRC (Wailain), was arrested by the Shanghai police. She was ordered to turn over her records on all past clients. Five days later authorities announced her arrest along with five others on charges of illegal currency trading with a value of ~$15M US.
This has sent a shock wave through her clients. If any were party officials or the family of military or party officials, secretly applying for emigration is considered a sign of disloyalty to the CCP. It also exposes their financial records to the government.
Since the beginning of the summer there have been increasing steps to stem the flood of money and high-net-worth individuals. Government officials at all levels have been ordered to complete detailed financial statements with harsh penalties if they are fund to have lied. I mentioned this in one of my previous posts.
Wailain, Ms He's company, boasts about emigration without relocation. It allows individuals and families to obtain foreign passports without leaving the PRC to do so. This allows them to continue to make money in China but be able to flee the country on a moment's notice.
The limit for currency exchanges is $50K US per year. Unofficial transfers are highly illegal. It is reported that the current overhead charged for black market currency exchanges is sitting at 40%. That is, you give them 140 Yuan to have 100 Yuan of value deposited in your account overseas.
