IIRC in the 70’s and 80’s there was a bit of a scandal about some of the new developments in Hawaii (i.e. Mililani Town) having substandard wiring - something involving the mix of copper and aluminum (I’m not an electrician and it’s been a long time).
There was a couple of house fires attributed to overheating wires and such.

You remember about right. Mililani was good in it’s early stages but the cheapassmonster crept in as time went. And aluminum wire built into a house in the islands is a disaster waiting to happen. Between the humidity and the sea breeze it just doesn’t last. Mililani is fortunate to have its supply grid buried and it’s away from the sea breeze but it’s still “high maintenance.”
I cam close to buying one of those Mililani condos in the late seventies. $35,000. I thought it was WAY too much.
