There are designs for Compact Modular Reactors out there that are self contained units producing less electricity than a big 1000MW reactor. These could easily provide the amount of power needed in a place like Maui.

Yes, there are a couple of different small modular reactor designs out there. 2 or 3 entities are interested, but the cost to build is pretty steep. Especially building the first ones - R&D ain’t free.
