I’m sorry to hear so many weren’t treated kindly in school years. I always had a lot of friends, never was bullied but also never bullied anyone. I only got into one physical altercation in junior high, I beat up a boy that was kicking a kitten. I must admit I was NOT a favorite with teachers as I was a comedian troublemaker.
I remember one time in the sixth grade and it was a cold morning. I had a much loved blue and white banded scarf. But one of my enemies, a boy, grabbed that scarf and tried to steal it. I dropped my books and held on. He then, while still pulling on the scarf, started kicking me. I, acting quite without thinking, let go of the scarf and grabbed his leg. That really made him mad. So, he let the scarf go and started trying to slug me in the face. I do not know where this next move came from. I lifted his leg as high as I could. He became off balance and fell backward onto his hind end.
I grabbed my scarf and sat down at my desk while other students ran out for the teacher, “Mary Jemian just beat up [that person’s name].” She came running into the classroom and sized up the situation. She never lectured me and I received no punishment. She didn’t even ask my side of it. Everyone else told her.
This teacher, Mrs. Lucille Roberts, knew what was happening and did her best to stop it.
I was bullied by a girl in middle school because a guy she liked liked me. Every time she walked by me she would trip me or slam me against the wall.
Anyway, I told one of my friends who was a very large and tall girl and she was livid about it. Next thing I heard that after recess, she had that girl pinned against the gym wall, towered over her about a foot and told her to back off or she would beat the crud out of her. She never bothered me again!

my sister and i were raised in a german roman catholic orphanage from the time I was 8 and she was 6, til we graduated from H.S.
