Never Wavered

PEPE LIVES MATTER
JUL 25, 2023

Something struck me the other day while thinking about perseverance and the many tests we all face in our lives. Abraham was a man who put himself wholly out there to believe God for something more than the status quo. He wandered the desert for decades. It made his faith into something whole and complete.

He nearly lost his footing many a time. He offered his wife to Pharoah in an attempt to protect himself when he saw they were in danger, when it had been literal decades he found a concubine and take things into his own hands, to name a few. But here’s what Romans says about Abraham:

“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.”

In hindsight, how can this be said about him when he clearly did waver?

Maybe that is the way God sees his journey. If that is the case, that is truly incredible. It makes me feel like even though many of us are going through many difficult challenges, as long as we persevere to the end and guard our faith, those beautiful things God promised us, despite our mistakes, He will look back with rose-colored glasses, and simply cherish walking hand in hand with us.

Not because you didn’t tumble like all children do when they are learning to walk. But because you refused to ultimately give up. Just keep going. You don’t need to be perfect, you just need to let God take you exactly where He wants. Even if that means going somewhere that no one has been, like Abraham in the desert, believing God would give him an impossible child at 100. You are a remarkable testimony in the making as God creates something incredible from the chaos.

Maybe you’ve lost heart lately or felt the burden weighing you down more than you feel you can handle. Maybe you tripped and fell. But get back up. Make it to that finish line and don’t dwell on yourself and your human nature. Focus on God and shake it off. Walk one step forward and then just one more. He’s there. And one day when your story is said and done on this earth, perhaps God will say this of you: My child never faltered.

Keep going.
