The allies weren’t forced to try D-Day without air support.

Marginally relevant here.

The attackers do have some air defenses.

Not buying the report’s numbers.

To my knowledge the allies has very limited air support on D day, compared to any modern standard.
That’s not to say air support isn’t needed. We suffered s lot of losses on D Day.
