I don’t think that cinders burning the ties on the mainline is a problem anymore because they use concrete ties. But accidental wildfires would be a problem, I guess.

Well, wooden ties were usually treated with creosote, which has fire retardant properties; the concern with coal cinders was being carried away on the wind and setting brush and grass on fire.
