Maybe a particularly virulent influenza, similar to bird flu, H1N1 and SARS-1? In a real pandemic, everyone knows 10 people who died and one is in your family. This was a fake pandemic. I’ll take a guess that the whole family who died were all obese and diabetic. It was noted after several months that people with multiple co-morbidities were particularly prone to severe cases of this flu. I didn’t see the article you refer to, so I can’t possibly know for sure why the whole family was so horribly afflicted.

Maybe there was some bad environmental toxin in the house. Maybe one of them had some bad other type of virus or infection and passed it to others at a family meal through bad food hygiene. Maybe they were genetically predisposed to “not get along well” with a particular virus, toxin, or bacterium.
Were the people who died all blood-related to each other? Or was there one who as related by marriage?
Maybe there was some sort of weird, strange interaction with the virus and something in the environment or something they ingested.
I remember once watching a true crime show where the wife accused of murder was acquitted when it was shown that the protein powder/nutritional supplement she put in her husband’s sports drink reacted badly to an antibiotic or something he was taking for some condition he had. It was the perfect storm of substances. It all came together to create some sort of poison in his blood that resembled antifreeze.
Another possibility is that they all went to the same hospital for treatment that was especially bad with the killer protocols.
