Torrential downpours unleashed flash floods on the US Northeast on Monday (Jul 10) that washed out roadways, overwhelmed rivers, forced numerous boat rescues and killed a woman who was swept away in front of her fiancé, officials said.

More than 13 million Americans were under flood watches and warnings from Eastern New York state to Boston and Western Maine to the northeast, the National Weather Service said in its forecast on Monday, after storms that began over the weekend inundated rivers and streams.

Private forecaster AccuWeather estimated damages and economic loss at US$3 billion to US$5 billion, preliminarily, based on its own method of evaluation.

This is so far from the worst that has been seen. They can’t even find any serious pictures to post in their article. The entire purpose of this article is to scar people. Global warming don’t you know. Of course people being flooded is never a good thing. But it is and always has been a part of nature.

Pretty crazy in So. VT and NH. Mutual aid has been very busy. Most FDs and water rescues have all been called in. Lots of major roads with problems. I’m high and dry on the mountain top though.

We had some minor flooding in the area. Happens every few years. The world isn’t gonna end.

Catastrophizing normal weather. I live in the north east and it was a bit rainy last week. The end.

So do I. 10 inches of rain in one day is not normal in the NE.
