My brother's high school had a Link Trainer near the end of WWII. He spent a lot of time on it and when fifteen started flying lessons. He soloed on his sixteenth birthday after the minimum dual time required. He said actual flying was a cinch because of the trainer.

Interesting. Usually military pilots tell me the opposite. Perhaps the simulators are just getting better and better.
