1. His voice definitely does not match his appearance.
2. His live “Sailing” video from 1980 on YouTube where he’s wearing a Houston Oilers #34 Earl Campbell jersey on stage.
The solo at the end of Ride Like The Wind is awesome. I’ve been air guitaring to it since it came out.
Don’t forget this one: https://youtu.be/_-IXJLgRnvs (Orleans Dance With Me)
The fact that he can play like that, and the guitar is so low, is amazing. I don’t want to shock anyone, but musicians can have a bit of ego; guitarists in particular. The fact that he put down that good of a lead track, and didn’t pitch a fit about the mix, blows my mind.
Rick Beato has a great YT channel. Lists, discussions, performances, sometimes a combination of all of that, plus, music lessons. Michael Palmisano (who is on a couple of videos with Beato) also has a great music channel.
Back when Cross was hitting it seemed every fifteen minutes a music reviewer challenged his readers to try to hum or whistle one of his melodies. Gotta admit I couldn’t do it.
Rick’s best interview yet - informative and VERY entertaining with CC’s stories.
His story of how Larry Carlton came to play on the album is absolutely amazing.
LC’s solo on “I Really Don’t Know Anymore” is very similar to his work on Steely Dan’s “Royal Scam” - sometimes known as SD’s “guitar album” since LC played lead and arranged half the tracks.
Nice to see CC be so humble and down to earth even after all these years.
Great Blackmore story from Cross
*bump*
Good interview.
Rick Beato is a great interviewer of musicians, because he knows music. You don’t get fanboy interviews from him.
