Get ready for the war on travel. It's coming
Hot Air ^ | 29 Jun, 2023 | JAZZ SHAW

This story emerged from an unlikely source involving Glenn Beck’s recent vacation to Europe. As reported at The Blaze, while Beck was overseas he had a disturbing conversation with his travel agent. He was told, “You should see Europe now while you can.” The reason is that the United Nations has been rolling out “sustainability goals” for the travel industry, particularly when it comes to air travel. They are trying to force airlines to get to “net zero” in terms of emissions. As we recently discussed here, the technology doesn’t currently exist to achieve net zero for commercial airlines without vastly increasing the cost for travelers. So the alternative will be to simply shut down air travel for “nonessential” purposes such as tourism, at least for “the little people.”

Glenn explains the unfortunate situation that’s coming for travel-lovers across the globe.

There’s official documentation showing that in Europe, “air travel … [will be] diminished until they get to zero … there will be no travel unless it is mass travel on trains – easier for Europe; impossible for the United States,” he explains.

They’re already “closing or preparing to close all airports [in the UK] except for Heathrow and Glasgow.”

This has already started happening in the UK. The Telegraph was warning back in February that most regional airports would be closing because of their inability to meet the operating costs imposed by new climate restrictions, among other challenges. The airport at Doncaster-Sheffield began preparing to close last September. Before long, the only major public airports remaining in operation will be Heathrow and Glasgow.

The phrase “public airports” is important in this context. Can you guess which airports aren’t closing? Those would be the private airports that serve smaller private jets and those who are wealthy enough

I’m content to let Michael Palin travel the world so I don’t have to.

Of course be careful in Russia...

Air travel was better when travelers behaved and the airlines did their level best to treat you well.

Once the price went down and people found the money for it, decorum went away, you paid charges for better service, and rules and regulations multiplied.

People need to learn to behave again, for starters, and that may take a generation’s worth of effort.

If I ran an airline, all seats aboard all craft would be comfortable. There would be fewer seats per craft and the price of a ticket would rise. Passengers would sign waivers regarding their behavior with the purchase of a ticket. I would emphasise hospitality to passengers but most air crews would be burly, MMA-trained dudes with the ability to roll up a bad passenger in packing tape, put away your awkward carry-on, and render first aid and CPR. There would be one or two (or maybe three) pretty stewardess to answer your questions and take your request. And your order would served by one of the burley dudes.

That last paragraph was largely in jest. There’s no way the FAA nor FTC would let me operate like that.

“That’s me. HATE traveling - especially after doing it for a living.”

Same here—spent way too much of my working life in airports and on airplanes.

The thought of flying somewhere now that I am retired makes me physically ill—I am not kidding.

You should go to the link in the article to the Blaze webpage and listen to Glenn Beck’s video. He goes into more detail.

Also, I presume the War on Travel will be waged against the Tax-Chattal and not against “Migrants” and “Refugees.”

Glen buys a new vacuum cleaner. Salesman says “You had better buy two, they are going to regulate them soon”. Glen rushes on air to tell everyone. “Call my Vacuum line now, operators standing by. We have a two pack of vacuums for you. “.

Hey! How about electric airplane engines and electric engines for ocean cruise liners? Electric vehicles are all the craze! Pushed and designed to leave you stranded!

Crazy - Fortunately most of the cities I visit are the big ones and there are so many AA flights a dya to each of them and back, and with my status I can change flights if any issues easily, combined with TSA pre scooting through security in 2-3 minutes, flying is usually much faster. About the closest place for me for work travel is NYC (NYC, Boston, Toronto, Miami, Chicago, LA, SF, London are most common - all the financial investment hubs). I do have a short trip to Atlanta in Sept that will be driving but that is just ~4 hours for me.

My new company is based in Ohio and I told them there was no way I was re-locating there for that, among other reasons, not even for the amount of extra money they were paying me. One of the subsidiaries has an office in Charlotte so I am largely working out of their offices (or from home).

So your retirement is predicated on 3-6 months a year in Europe? Or go back into corporate hell? I guess you’ve seen all of the USA then. I’m in my 50s and have 1 state left to visit, and many sites in those states I didnt get to, but want to visit. That said I’d much rather spend my money in my own country, supporting our local business owners. Sometimes even the ones I shouldn’t, if I’m visiting a liberal place with things I want to see.
Spend your money in this country supporting our economy.

Europe, Asia, Caribbean, South America, Canada, plus domestic travel. I haven't been everywhere in the US obviously, but quite a bit, a lot of cities a ton (eg: probably been to NYC ~80 times in the last 10 years [all for work], Miami/FL ~25 times, Charleston ~15 times). I don't actually intend to go back into the work force after I retire at ~45ish, was being a bit facetious. I don't think all these airports and flights will go away anyway - just a bit more expensive, which won't impact me materially.

I do my part to support our country, my wife a lot more, and my taxes paid are insane at this point so definitely doing my part there. "The rich don't pay their fair share" isn't true when your income is W2 income. I'll average ~43% income tax rate over the next 3 years till I retire between state + fed.

Well you’re doing better than the majority. Don’t get me started on taxes either. We make in excess of 6 figures a year, not wealthy or rich, and we barely get by. It’s been an expensive administration with their policies for sure. Everything is more expensive.

What do you think the motivation behind mandating electric cars is?

I went all in on climbing the corp ladder about 15 years ago and every promotion, 80-90% of my after tax increase has gone to saving/investing. And I’ve fortunately achieved a level I would have never dreamed even 5 years ago. I can’t imagine for non executives at this point. Trump deserves a lot of the current inflation blame too - shutdowns, stopping student loan payments, stimulus checks, money for everyone, etc. At least he got the judges right
