I believe that is what we would call an “Old Wives Tale.”

I had googled earlier and learned they are called hotdogs because the Germans favorite dog was Daushounds (weiner dogs, that is what we call them.) :-) Anyway because the sausage/weiner/frankfurt is long and slender like a Daushound that is why they called them hotdogs. They looked like their dogs.

Now who can trust anything that is said on Google anymore though.

Although some in Europe who were starving during the war may have had to-who knows?
