One of our friends here on the thread, Exit82, mentioned the GOP in Congress and keeping promises. It reminded me of a scene in the Doris Day Rock Hudson movie, Lover Come Back. Doris’ character has to gently let down her ad guy on using a lavender colored floor in a new ad.
Doris choosing her words carefully, “Not to say lavender floors aren’t pretty. But we have to sell this polish to ordinary people.”
Ad guy in disgust, “Oh them.”
Now change characters.
GOPe 1 Firmly to GOPe2, “No way are we planning on doing any of ‘this’ (please insert your favorite GOP promise here).” Emphasis added, “For cash in our coffers and votes next election, we simply must make the public believe we are on their side.”
GOPe2 resigned to facts and feeling disgust, “Oh them.”
