The Upper Atmosphere Is Cooling, Prompting New Climate Concerns
Yale Environment 360 ^ | 18/5/23 | Fred Pearce

Posted on 06/25/2023 12:03:53 PM PDT by Eleutheria5

There is a paradox at the heart of our changing climate. While the blanket of air close to the Earth’s surface is warming, most of the atmosphere above is becoming dramatically colder. The same gases that are warming the bottom few miles of air are cooling the much greater expanses above that stretch to the edge of space.

This paradox has long been predicted by climate modelers, but only recently quantified in detail by satellite sensors. The new findings are providing a definitive confirmation on one important issue, but at the same time raising other questions.

The good news for climate scientists is that the data on cooling aloft do more than confirm the accuracy of the models that identify surface warming as human-made. A new study published this month in the journal PNAS by veteran climate modeler Ben Santer of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution found that it increased the strength of the “signal” of the human fingerprint of climate change fivefold, by reducing the interference “noise” from background natural variability. Sander says the finding is “incontrovertible.”

Everything that happens is incontrovertible proof of climate change. Blizzards? Climate change. Heat wave? Climate change. Hurricanes? Climate change. No hurricanes? Climate change. When I have an empty CO2 cartridge to be turned in to the grocery for a new one (how I make soda), I open the valve until it stops hissing, so as to get all the CO2 into the atmosphere that I can. That way I'm contributing to climate change. It's a good thing.

Lies piled on top of one another. As long as the gullible sheep buy it, why not?

What we need is a good CEO to manage our climate. Maybe Stockton Rush.

Can’t get him on the phone though.

I am a scientist, really I am.

My Mark 4 bull shit detector went off scale from this article. It broke it. Thus I can not comment on the article. My Mark 4 died an agonizing death and I mourn my loss.

Cooling. Warming. Send more money.
Warming. Cooling. The sun stays sunny.
Whether the weather is serious or funny,
Money's the game, constantly MONEY!

“The good news for climate scientists is that the data on cooling aloft do more than confirm the accuracy of the models that identify surface warming as human-made.”

What a weird phrasing. The “good news for the scientists” rather than something more neutral? This sounds like “the good news is we found a way to keep our grant money.”

……..Part of this shrinking was due to a short-term decline in solar activity that has since ended, but 1,120 feet of it was due to cooling caused by the extra CO2, he calculates……

Hm… acknowledgement the sun plays a part in climate…. But regardless, collecting more taxes and spending money on useless solutions will remain a priority.

The Upper Atmosphere Is Cooling, Prompting New Climate Concerns

One thing about climate 'science' is that,it's always correct. If observations and data do not comply with the previous assertions and predictions, then, those observation and assertions will be adjusted to make sure that climate science is not disputed. Everything that violates the predictions, will be spun away and made to fit.

I haven’t read the article yet, but from the excerpt it sounds like the lower atmosphere has increased in temperature, and the upper part has lowered in temperature.

So our atmosphere in all is about the same temperature as before. Just as everything in creation, things are mostly self-regulating.

They have all the right answers and the wrong questions. Basic thermodynamics are at play and this system is a relatively closed system with a negative feedback loop. I believe it was one of those evil white guys who theorized “to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”.

It’s almost as if the current political scientists (people who think they are scientists but advancing a political agenda) don’t comprehend basic science. I

“...predicted by climate modelers...”

Who have been consistently wrong about everything. Just more crap from the likes of Michael Piltdown Mann.

Hot on the bottom cool on the top makes sense. Just like when I fill my thermos with hot soup in the bottom half and ice cream in the top half.

The “GOOD NEWS”???? I can’t image the sell-out academics and the paid falsifier propagandists in the media being any more transparent that they have been and continue to push nonense onto the people of the world.

Or maybe some nutcase like John Kerry - with morn money than brains - seeded the upper atmosphere in a ‘climate change frenzy’ and will kill off most of the human race.

Good to know. I'll light a fire in the bottom of my refrigerator & freezer & move everything to the top shelves for all that colder air.

But the lower atmosphere isn’t warming, unless you go back and adjust the historical data downwards.

“While the blanket of air close to the Earth’s surface is warming”

One can disregard this line completely in the concept. In the first place this is NOT true so it does not factor in. Getting colder over all is true. We are indeed heading into another ice age, and they are hell bent on helping it come even faster while they lie to us and tell us the opposite.

Tell you what, this summer so far has been the coldest I have personally experienced in my lifetime in the desert southwest. It has been absolutely crazy abnormally cooler than it should be.
