I expect Prigozhin is being given time to rest up/re-stock/fuel up is Belarus. As you note he’s way closer to Kyiv there than he ever was in the Donbas.
His troops might very well trickle over to join him.
Remember it was from the north that Pootin first made a run on Kyiv but his logistics were terrible and his guys ran out of gas and got chewed up. The Wagners are way better at logistics and they get a free pass as far as Chernobyl.
I fully expect there will be one more run on Kyiv especially if Ivan thinks the Ukes are overloaded to the East. If that happens then all that eastern effort will have meant nothing. But the Russians are not known for flanking movements: maybe they’ve learned-—maybe not. We’ll know within about two weeks.
