Idiocy. Junteenth is a real, American holiday, one that Republicans should lead celebrating as it finished what Republican President Lincoln started—freeing the slaves.

Kawanza is the most fake and Juneteenth is the most faked (possibly tied by Cinco de Mayo). None of the black folks I was raised around ever celebrated it and I never heard about it until some white people in Chicago told me about it. I figure it’s one of those “celebrated by liberal whites for minorities cuz minorities don’t know any better” kinda things.

Kwanzaa is most made up. Juneteeth at least has a historical event that its ostensibly based on...albeit a bit like Cinco de Mayo it was a localized event that was artificially amplified to a supposed national one.

This country needs more holidays now that we got Juneteenth in there. How about Ramadon Day, Ukraine Independence Day, National Crime Victim’s Day, Cinque D-milo, May Day for the commies, etc. Bottom line we’re going nuts with stupid holidays.

Juneteenth relates to freeing Texas slaves. Keep in mind slaves were previously freed in the majority of states long before that.

Kwanzaa was made up by a black liberation Marxist felon in the 1960s. Same guy that was convicted of kidnapping and torturing two women. Send that fake day back to hell.

Just went to our bank, sign read:

CLOSED, in observance of NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY, Juneteenth

Does this mean JULY 4th is no longer THE national Independence Day?

Technically the slaves in Texas had already been freed by Abraham Lincoln on January 1,1863. To wit:

The Emancipation Proclamation, officially Proclamation 95, was a presidential proclamation and executive order issued by United States President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, during the American Civil War. The Proclamation changed the legal status of more than 3.5 million enslaved African Americans in the secessionist Confederate states from enslaved to free. As soon as slaves escaped the control of their enslavers, either by fleeing to Union lines or through the advance of federal troops, they were permanently free. In addition, the Proclamation allowed for former slaves to "be received into the armed service of the United States".

So we have a national holiday celebrating a Union Army Military Govenor informing some former slaves in Texas that they were indeed free two years after the fact.

Juneteenth should ideally be acknowledged by freedom loving people everywhere. Not necessarily a “holiday” but an acknowledgment.

Most holidays were made up, and are useless. I think the Hallmark Company invented the majority of them for obvious reasons.

Trump claims he deserves credit for Juneteenth

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/18/politics/donald-trump-juneteenth-credit/index.html

President Donald Trump is seeking to take credit for making Juneteenth – a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States – “very famous,” after rescheduling his first rally since the start of the pandemic to avoid further criticism for seeming to co-opt it.

Trump told The Wall Street Journal that “nobody had ever heard of” the holiday before he brought it up.

“I did something good: I made Juneteenth very famous,” Trump said in reference to the rally date in an interview published Thursday. “It’s actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it.”
