Gotta be a senior to appreciate most of them.
What about WW3 (I forget how to write Roman numeral 3 on keyboard)?
I remember when cigs were 35 cents a pack
When I was a teen, we used to drive over to the Cherokee Reservation and pay $1.10 for a carton of cigarettes...We’d buy all we could afford and come back to East Tennessee and sell them at a bowling alley for $2.50 a carton...We were cigarette bootleggers...LOL
As a kid, my dad would send me to the local store with a $2 bill and buy a carton of cigarettes, a gallon of milk, and a loaf of bread and get change back.
It was 25 cents per gallon in 1974. There was a “gas shortage”; however, they discovered large deposits of the more expensive stuff.
I am old, but I don’t feel old.
Great story.
I started when they were 60 cents a pack. They seemed to go up a nickel a week.
I think the theme from Bonanza is the first music I ever heard.
At 63 I feel young, a bit self-conscious at recent weight gain, but do notice just how dated all of this is, things that seem fresh, now happened before most people I know were even born.
MLK and RFK were still alive when I was born, and the grotesque oaf LBJ was still president.
In high school (ear.y/mid 70s) I worked for the local supermarket (one of a major chain) and I distinctly remember cigarettes were 42 cents per pack. You had to hit a special key on the cash register because they were accounted for differently than other groceries.
I was just looking in my curio cabinet and saw a small commemorative snifter from my 25th HS reunion. I quickly did the math and thought, “oh, that’s 1999 - not so long ago.” Then realized my 50th will be NEXT YEAR!!!!
Jurassic Park just celebrated its 30th anniversary. Here’s another fun fact: “Jurassic Park” was released on the same date as “E.T: The Extra-terrestrial”, June eleventh! And speaking of “E.T”, it just celebrated its 41st anniversary!
I got through high school in mid ‘60’s...Military late ‘60’s to early ‘70’s...I have a 60 year reunion coming up pretty soon...(sigh)
While it isn’t apparent to me ... have you ever been to the Dan Blocker museum in O’Donnell, Texas?
JFK has been dead 60 years.
And my TV could only get 3 TV stations. (That was enough for back then).
Didn’t Jon Erik Hexum blow his brains out (unintentionally) with a blank? I think he was goofing around on set and had no idea the damage would be so great. Something like that. Or maybe it was someone else . . .
Yep, my parents bought their first home in the S.F. Bay Area for $28,000. Dad was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station and my brother and I were little kids. My sister, Kid #3 was born there.
Heck NO, I don’t feel ‘Old’ - just arthritic is all...
