ThanQ MOD...and thank you for your touching tribute to our late brother-in-arms, Bagster.
I still can’t believe he’s gone. The gravity of his illness was belied by his domineering online personality which made his seemingly sudden passing incomprehensible.
Now, that I have a fuller understanding of his battles, I’m amazed at his resilience.
News from Fort Carson, 4th Infantry Division
My son-in law (E8/1stSG) and his 4ID battalion has left for South Korea for a 9-month duty on the DMZ.
Those are the public orders.
When asked by me what they get to do there, he hesitated, and I offered “landscaping?”.
He agreed that they would be performing landscaping efforts on the DMZ.
Inside joke: He is Latino from suburban Chicago. His company is made up of a majority of Latino men. He found it humorous and instructed his charges to use that reason when discussing the orders to friends and family. While dating my daughter, he told me the “El Salvadore” joke; FR-mail me for the joke.
Agreed. Although I'd had an eerie vibe the last few months that he wouldn't be back, I still held out hope. When the update about him showing improvement was put up, I posted "It sounds like he's about to turn a corner". Never occurred to me that that "corner" was the final one.
No doubt in my mind as to where he is now. No more cares, no more illness, no more suffering. Godspeed, Bagster. Hope you'll continue to look in on us from time to time.
