FIrst of all BMI was never meant to measure an individual's weight but rather a group. I am sick of medical people using it. And I agree it is racist to some degree as when it is used on individuals it fails to take in to account bone structure etc. Germanic people and most Asian people are built totally different yet both can be healthy.
My D-I-L is a dietician and hates BMI. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, and insurance rates are based on the measure.
SLIDE:
I remember reading that using the BMI on professional basketball players puts them in the overweight category.
People generally don’t like BMI because it gives them the feeling of being labeled a fat person, period. To a degree, the amount of fat you have isn’t necessarily a large issue unless you are immobilizingly so, or have a host of co-incident features that end up statistically pointing towards increased morbidity.
Any one of a particular racial type that takes proclamations like these seriously is an idiot. Due in particular to the fact that equatorial and southern African origin persons overall have a far shorter period of genetic exposure to carbohydrate heavy diets they are WAY more susceptible to the inflammatory and metabolic impairment associated with them.
This is practically as if pharmaceutical companies marketing units are thinking this crap up to make sure they get a big slice of the ethnic minority “if you take this drug you can eat anything you want” market…🙄
