No one has claimed that, except for a handful of long-dead sci-fi authors and people unfamiliar with the subject.

What's amusing is how some people trot out that "billions of light years away" strawman on almost every thread of this subject.
Theories like that make it sound like they came just yesterday, when they may well, from the wealth of evidence, have always been here.
