George Washington used flat bottom boats (skiff’s) made by the DURHAM BOAT WORKS to cross the icy Deleware River one Christmas. I SUSPECT that was a deliberate mispelling!

Thanks.

I am aware of the Durham boats, and I have even seen a reproduction of one at Washington Crossing State Park in Pennsylvania when we went one year to watch the annual re-enactment of the Christmas crossing.

They were used by Durham Ironworks for hauling freight on the Delaware River.
