One of the facets of Dr. Hanson’s stye is is employment of the Socratic method to foster knowledge rather than just telling us how it is.

I’ll bet if you took his lectures and broke them down by punctuation marks in his work, and compared them to other authors of like work both on the Left and the Right, I would wager that his work would have a greater percentage of question marks than any other.

Asking the question provokes the reader to answer it for themselves, and is quite a different way of discovering and disseminating the truth than is the method employed by sophists (using the non-complimentary description of the word which implies clever and/or skillful dishonesty in arguing a point) who are found everywhere from the Republican halls of Congress to the pages of Democratic Underground and even (or often!) on Free Republic.

Almost all of us are sophists in a given situation, which is why I enjoy reading Dr. Hanson’s work, as he employs that tactic less frequently.

Agreed!

Helping us breakdown a complex subject to where we can repeat the knowledge learned is the goal.

Which Prof Hanson does extremely well.

I have a friend who said shortly before Rush Limbaugh died, that Rush was keeping him sane in insane times.

VDH does that for me.
