Kearny’s Nuclear War Survival Skills is long out of print. Glad I have a copy.

Such a good movie, it just may turn out to be a guidebook, LOL. Yep. I've got on it disk, watch it occasionally. Peter Sellers, George C. Scott & Slim Pickens were great in it.

Their subway stations were fallout shelters.
If I ever get the chance to visit Moscow, going to those stations would be on the top of my list, they did a great job with those. No graffiti there.

"A shovel or backhoe for all that digging you'll be doing Working by hand, two people could build this shelter in a backyard or wooded area in two days or less, "Nuclear War Survival Skills" says."
If you are going to do this by hand be prepared.
1) Have work boots NOT tennis shoes.
2) Have the right type of shovels.
Long handled shovels to own; Long Handled Diamond point and Square point shovel. Post hole digger or auger or both. trenching tool. Since you will probably also want to use these tools in the garden you might as well buy a Spading fork with a D handle too.
3) Have a good wheel barrow.

Oh well, I live 4 miles from Macdill AFB.
If the balloon goes up, I’ll probably have 30 minutes to say goodbye.

I recall crawling under my desk a couple times. And two private bomb shelters in the better neighborhood adjacent to the golf course—and CD signs on downtown buildings.

The blast is the blast. The problem is the fallout and radiation sickness. If you survive, you want to avoid radiation sickness. It’s a nasty way to go.

"Problem is, the kind of people who build fallout shelters are the last people you’d really want to survive."
You're right. They should be the first ones turned into crispy critters.
