🚨 JUST IN: A DC-area resident captured the “explosion” sound on his home camera.
We now know the “explosion” was a sonic boom caused by fighter jets scrambled to intercept an unresponsive Cessna Citation jet overflying DC, which later crashed.

Call me crazy but I liked the sonic booms scaring the crap out of me. I missed them when they had to stop doing that. :-)
Oh my gosh, that cessna had just left our little airport in elizabethton. We heard it had crashed but I didn’t relate it to the Sonic boom.
I hope the pilot wasn’t vaccinated.
