You make a great point that my wife sometimes brings up. If we have some saved food and water purification, a shotgun and some sanitary items in a storage shed and lived by hunting squirrels and reading my candlelight, would that be a life worth living. Or the modern day Walking Dead-meets-Mad Max-type existence with no AC, no heat and foraging for food would just be not worth it. Take the blue pill and swallow the shotgun muzzle? I would say no, fight to the end and pray for salvation from Christ. Who knows, maybe this is the “big one” and Jesus is coming back soon....

Exactly so.
Not a huge federal monster like we have now. Not even a bloated crony resort like most states endure..
But a small town, organized effort, where neighbors get together and share the workload, makes an awful lot of sense.
Even small-scale farming takes a lot of time and effort. The more mouths to feed, the more land and labor. And if you’re farming all day, you won’t have much free time for medical tasks, teaching the kids, making clothes and tools, construction and especially defense.
The whole “Militia of One” concept is flawed since there is indeed safety in numbers. Think “survival village” instead of armed hermits.
I really think the AI robots are coming. No joke.
