Winning or losing lives and control in the Tet offensive did not matter to some, or enough, key people or they would have gone back again and again, taking losses, until they prevailed.

The NVA/VC got crushed militarily, the South did not rise up and revolt against its gov't. The military kicked ass as did the ARVN. The Tet Offensive was a strategic error by the North, fortunately for them they had democrats.
