AM has much better range plus it can “skip” which can send the signals hundreds of miles. I can recall when the clear channels would have people call from where in the country they were. Clear channels have just 3 call letters and share broadcast frequency with no other station.

Well, we do have significant stretches of US Highway miles where 4G-LTE signal is non existent. [5G?; Standup Comedy Time]

Then having an AM radio does the job on getting data to listen to.

You are right of course. Sometimes between Orangeburg, SC and Charlotte I get WSM out of Nashville loud and clear.

As a kid I would get the Chicago station at night very good.

That was in E. Tennessee. They used to boost the wattage late night in the olden time.
