Tires have Carbon emissions?

Who knew? [Why do they wear out anyway?]

Great, now they’ll install tank tracks on EVs and try to sell us on them.

Nobody is for dirty air. We all want Smog-free cities.

But calling CO2 a 'pollutant' is disingenuous at best. Every human exhales CO2.

The market will prevail.

The market will determine the success of the Tesla auto market disruption

Aside from being electric, Tesla has revolutionized auto production and manufacturing

I agree wholeheartedly that EV's aren't pollution free, particularly the production of them. Perhaps overall more polluting than building and running an ICE car for 200K miles.

However, I'm not sold out on the belief that EV's eat up tires faster than ICE cars. I just recently replaced the tires on our EV after we put 24K miles onto it. IMHO that's not bad.

Seems like NASCAR drivers, pit crews and regular race & practice personnel would be at greater risk than the general population.

EV’s aren’t “zero emission” vehicles. They just move all their emissions upstream to the power plant, and probably generate more emissions once you figure in the inefficiencies involved in generating the power constantly even when its not needed, and inefficiencies in transmission, storage, etc.

The government sponsors electric cars for their own reasons. Not for the environment. They can track and turnoff an electric car. They can listen to the driver. They can see what you did after you crash and die. They can see if you were speeding a month ago. They can track every cell phone that entered the car. They can track your listening by any source. The fact that its electric means they can control it. And monitor you. The environment is a very small reason for promoting electric cars.

Vehicles of the future!

Except not good on long trips.
Or in cold weather.
Or with heavy loads.
Or during peak usage times.
Or for high-mileage applications.

Or, or, or, or ........

What a study in crowd control, that we can convince most of a planet that carbon can harm us.

According to news this morn when the batteries in electric cars die there is no way to recycle them and they cost $10K to $20K to replace. Gee, sign me up for one.

Most EVs weigh in the 4000-5000lb range, which is comparable to most ICE midsized and larger sedans and crossovers. My Q7 weighs more than any EV with the sole exception of the big Mercedes EQV passenger van (which weighs about the same). This is a non-issue as far as tire particulate pollution, but may well be a “hey wait a minute” moment for the Eco-mentalists in trying to ban *all* cars.

Also EV’s dont carry a spare tire

1. weight of tire and rim is about 75lbs

2. jack adds another 2 lbs

3. What driver could lift a 75 lb tire,,,?

4. Added weight of spare tire and jack reduces mileage range

5....and the kicker.....Jack under the wrong place and puncture the battery compartment.

Rechargeable personal transports may very well be the correct answer in a world with a growing population. If this is to be the case, lithium batteries recharged by coal fired power plants is not even the best solution with currently available technology, this design isn’t anywhere nearly scaleable enough to be anymore than hobby/enthusiast level toys.
