Aug 8, 2005 Grammy Award-winning musician Marc Cohn was shot in the head by a man who attempted to carjack his entourage Sunday night, police said. Following a standoff that lasted more than five hours, police have arrested the man suspected of shooting Grammy Award-winning singer Marc Cohn in Denver.

Joseph William Yacteen, 26, is being held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, robbery and other charges after police say he went on a carjacking spree Sunday night. Police say during that spree, Yacteen shot at a van downtown in which Cohn and his road manager were riding. Cohn, famous for his hit song “Walking in Memphis,” had just performed at a sold-out concert at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Joseph Yacteen is being helding on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, robbery and a slew of other charges in connection with three attempted carjackings. By Monday evening, officers had cornered the shooting suspect at a vacant home near 27th Avenue and Josephine Street. At about 6 p.m., officers used reverse 911 to notify residents in that area of what was going on. Officers then set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, shot out the street lights and even had dogs at the scene hoping to bring Yacteen in. Officers shot him with rubber bullets to finally take him into custody at about 11:30 p.m.

Who ever thought Denver would be more dangerous than walking in Memphis.

DC streetlights had light sensors that turned them on and off. Zap one with your spotlight and it goes out. No bullets required. That way, you’’ll still have ammo to use on the perp.

Thanks,
My first true girlfriend lived in Wheat Ridge and Morrison.
Met her in Boulder 50 years back. We went separate ways but now email daily. One of her favorite songs.

That’s cool, thanks.

I followed the sidebar suggestions to a 2018 live version where he gives a little background on the song.

Miss Muriel is long since dead but the Hollywood Cafe is still there, still makes great fried pickles. Unlike the Rendezvous, the Hollywood deserves its outsized reputation.
