They’ve been complaining about Mother’s Day for decades. The lady that pushed for Mother’s Day hated it before she died. For the same reason many Christians hate what Christmas has turned into. Commercialization gets rid of sentiment. She wanted a day for people to tell their moms how awesome they were. What we have is a day when you’re supposed buy your mom jewelry and take her to a restaurant. We replaced love and respect with $$$.
I’ve felt the same way about Valentine’s Day for decades.
Fortunately, my spouse of 44 years shares that sentiment; we clearly don’t question our love and affection for one another.
So, we don’t observe it.
But we would never consider questioning or criticizing those who do.
