Anu Alaskan freepers? I'm thinking about moving
Now | Me

Posted on 05/09/2023 7:11:10 PM PDT by GunHoardingCapitalist

For the last couple of years I have been looking at relocating out of North Kalifornia (aka Washington State), the political climate and values I hold dear are no longer recognized or respected. I cannot hold onto the hope that the Idaho boarder shifts my way.

Texas was my first choice, then I remembered how many poisonous crawlers live there, and honestly I need my mountains, evergreen trees and snow. Alaska really is the state for me. It will pain me to leave my mountain (Mt. St Helens).

For years I have felt a calling to Alaska, not just because it is the second freedom state, but because of the opportunities it has, I am an outdoorsman, so it checks the box for hunting and fishing, I love metal detecting/gold panning as a hobby. I love taking out my 4 wheeler and snowmobile and getting stuck in the snow. But I also want to own a home and land, as a single income man, home/land ownership is no longer feasable in southern Washington.

As I said, Alaska has been calling me, if there are any Freepers in the Wasilla, Palmer, Anchorage area that might have a possible lineup for work opportunities I would love to hear from you, either public or private message if you want to keep anonymous.

My primary background is maintenance in food processing plants, however I specialize in industrial controls and automation. It should not be hard to find work, but I need a sure thing to pack up life and make a bold move. In a few years, my daughter, her husband and the grandkids are looking to move there as well, it would be nice to be established ahead of time to give them a foundation and soft start.

Suggestions, employment contacts, employment agencies etc would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking myself, but in a narrow window.

Thank you.

I love the Fins, as they say in rally. If you want to win, employ a Fin.

Been here 36 years, won’t ever leave; but it’s not you think. You’ll never live off the land. Wife and I lived in an Indian Village as the white teachers along the Yukon; retired in Fairbanks. I have moose looking in my windows, martin in my bird feeder, and have had wolves eat my dogs and get in my garbage cans. You must make 50 bucks an hour to survive, or you’ll with all the illegals working at wally world. I’ve seen minus 70 and always see minus 40-50 every winter. I still had 3 foot snow in my yard 2 weeks back. It’s in 50’s here in Fairbanks now. Plan on living in Anch for work and learn about alaska. It was great raising kids and our family always got a moose or two and lots of caribou. Nothing better than running down wolves on snowmachines. Have a job in anch before coming. Alaska use to be very conservative, but it’s turning blue with all the Asians and Hispanics; sad. We live in better section of Fairbanks up on ridge; no crime but most of my neighbors are commie dems. good enough neighbors but we argue alot when i take them fishing in my boat. About 2/3s the people who come up here leave after a winter and head south talking bad about Alaska.

Had a 600A 480v panel blow up next to me because sanitation thought it was fine to wash the walls with a hose. The breakers blew out and rippid off the senders and seen a copper buss-bar glowing orange shoot across the plant, found it imbeded through the wall of one of our stainless smoke ovens 200 feet away. The panel looked just like the aftemath of a chestburster from alien. The kid was so lucky he was not in front of it, he was walking away when it happened. Arc flash is terrifying!

Listen to Eska and ASOC. Alaska is going blue fast. Unions, natives, big money from lower 48 have turned AK. Been here over 20 years. Anchorage is controlled by faggots and shows no sign of changing. It’s become a welfare state. Forget living off the land. Maybe four months to grow food. If the SHTF there won’t be a moose left in sight. Then the welfare maggots will turn on “ rich people” or whoever has prepared for shortages. I’m thinking of moving myself. Juneau is controlled my dem communists and Vichy repubs

Maybe I can be a part of the 1/3rd to keep the state Red. I have no fear of the winters, nor the lack of sunlight during that time. I grew up on a farm and know how to grow plants in the winter indoors. Im not looking for the homestead live off the land life, I want a safeway nearby so I dont have to hunt for daily survival, im just looking for someplace to live and prosper but also has that challenge to be self-sufficiend if needed. Im looking for a new life, a new begening.

Yes, it does.

The Last of the Wilds

This is hauntingly beautiful and it paints a good picture of the Finnish soul. For some reason, I've been learning Finnish, and the more I learn the more this song opens up to me. And the video is stunning. Told my wife that we should sell everything and move there and live on reindeer meat and pancakes, but she's not having it. Ah, well.

I was starting up a package boiler at the Camp Pendleton hospital years ago. An electrician at the other end of the room working on the MCC shorted his fish tape and vaporized a good chunk of it. The whole room lit up. It’s been almost 50 years and I can still recall it.

I’ve been here over 45 years. The first thing you want to ask yourself Is “How do I want to live?” If you are going to do the work and live the city thing there is not much point to it. If all you plan to do is go to work and live in town you can do that in lots of places that are warmer and less expensive.

I would rather eat moose nuggets without mustard than live in Anchorage, Fairbanks, The Valley, or Juneau. We always say the nice thing about them is that it is about an hour or so to Alaska from there.

Culturally, forget the rugged independent Alaskan meme. A great many of the people now are after whatever kind of handout or government featherbed position they can get. There are about 330,000 folks that could be in the workforce if they so desired. 130,000 of them work for some form of government. There are over 250,000 on the dole in one way or another.

Having said that, I am here and stay here for the countryside. We are in the interior about an hour from Fairbanks. Our nearest neighbor is a half mile away and the next nearest is a mile away. Yep. It’s cold. In our case about 13,000 heating degree days per year. Yep the mosquitoes will carry you off. Yep there is some dangerous wildlife. Once had a quarter ton of grizzly banging on the back door. Not near as dangerous as some of the wildlife in some of the cities though!

I would suggest a lot of research. A lot of things you take for granted in the 48 will be more difficult and costly. Don’t burn your bridges. You might want to consider visiting in both the winter and the summer. Become independent. Learn how to do lots of things. Having someone else do things for you is expensive.

A shame to hear that about Alaska. I wouldn’t expect the city dwellers to do well in a SHTF situation, though.

I am really glad to hear both the pros and cons, gives me a lot to process and think about before making a move.

Luckily, I dont have a family in tow, so there is no error for them If I make a mistake or a bad choice. Just me and my dumb ass making another bad decision in life.

But Alaska still calls to me like a siren to a sailor.

I live in Wasilla, but I’ve been retired for nine years now, so I really don’t pay much attention to the labor market.
Personally, I think southeast Alaska would be more to your liking. It’s much closer in topography to Washington than the rest of Alaska is. Palmer and Wasilla are just a suburb of Anchorage and I’d love to move somewhere else in Alaska that’s not so crowded.

Good luck on you mate! That’s the old American spirit that drove society onward and westward as it escaped the suck of where they originated in the east. Sadly, even the last frontier, Alaska, is now in the talons of Washington D.C. Best wishes on your relocation...give it a shot.

A friend's brother and his pal moved to Alaska maybe 20 years ago and started a fishing outfitter business.

After several years, they had a falling out so my friend's brother went to work for one of the oil companies up there. He makes great money.......

I lived in AK for 20 years — ~ 1970-1990. It was a blast living there, and if you had a pulse you could do well financially. Zero political correctness. Best years of my life.

I have heard that AK is nothing like that any more. Lots of homelessness and it’s gone pretty woke. Just what I’ve heard, but don’t know for sure.
