Now that she has been crowned alongside her husband, King Charles III’s wife is officially known as Queen Camilla.
While it sounds more official than “queen consort,” the changing of titles does not signify any practical difference in the role of the 75-year-old royal.
Queen consorts do not formally share the sovereign’s powers, and dropping the “consort” part of the title does not change that. Nonetheless, the change marks a milestone in Camilla’s decadeslong road to rehabilitating her image — from someone once reviled as the other woman in Charles’ first marriage to Princess Diana, to a senior royal member largely accepted by the British public.
The question of what title Camilla would hold when Charles became king has long been a subject of contention, due to sensitivity about her status as Charles’ second wife.
Camilla and her first husband, Andrew Parker-Bowles, divorced in 1995, shortly after Charles gave an explosive television interview admitting his relationship with Camilla. Charles and Diana divorced the following year. In 1997, there was a global outpouring of grief when Diana died in a car crash. Camilla and Charles waited until 2005 to marry in a low-key private civil ceremony.

That would be useful to have a head of state outside of politics. One who's not a Democrat or a Republican. But we got rid of the King. And we don't want a King. So how would it work in the American system?

For those who look down on the concept of Royalty, in particular the British royal family, I’m much more interested in British royalty with its thousand years of history and lineage than I am in this Country’s version of nouveau royalty, namely Hollywood. Depends on who you want to emulate and treat as royalty, and we worship trashy, tawdry Hollywood celebrities (not all of them, but many) as our version of royalty.
We have substituted Hollywood as our version of royalty, so as far as I can tell, we are far worse off in this Country with our faux royalty than by those on this thread that knock the British royal family who at least practice service to others and loyalty to their country as versus the heor worship of the socialist egomaniacs that infest Hollywood.

As posted on another thread, I repeat, 18 years of marriage between Camilla and Charles who Charles met and fell in love with before he met Diana, but the relationship was broken up by the royal family as not suitable, isn’t enough time to prove its worth? How many of you Freepers out there had failed first marriages and yours didn’t have to have the seal of approval by a royal family first.
Queen Elizabeth liked Camilla very much; they were both lovers of all things horses, and Camilla is known for her quick wit as was Queen Elizabeth known for, a quick wit. The Queen approved Camilla being given the title of Queen before she died. Camilla also heads many charities, is known for being unassuming and friendly, and has done her royal duties well lo these many years. Give her a break. She has been Charles’ strong right arm and they are each others love of their life.
Kudos to Camilla for parrying the slings and arrows sent her way, and doing her duty as an integral part of the royal family in spite of all the flack she has taken for so long. I totally admire her fortitude and courage. She will be a good Queen.

I guess you weren’t watching, but Camilla essentially became a Queen in September; and officially a Queen just a couple of days ago. She’s not a ‘Queen regnant’, but neither would Diana have been - and Catherine won’t be, either.
You’re right. I wasn’t watching. Americans ceased having to care about what those degenerates do back in 1776.
Well, we didn’t ‘have’ to care about; but I’d bet that millions did care enough to tune in for the Coronation.
