He asked her how she managed to live to nearly 100 and still have all of her teeth and she told him that when they were growing up, they cut Sweetgum twigs for toothbrushes. She showed me how to make them.

And here we had a sweetgum tree in our front yard for years, and I never knew it was a toothbrush tree! 😂 Until it grew too big, and we had to have it cut down. Beautiful shade tree, but someone had planted it way too close to the house, unfortunately.

Eucalyptus twigs make excellent toothbrushes. I used for a long time when I had a tree in my backyard. Teeth never felt so clean. I’ve read most fruit tree twigs can be used, and also neem, but that is only for tropical regions.
