I have actually seen rat snakes kill and eat baby copperheads so we let them stay around.

Snakes don’t upset me. I spent the first 15 years of my life near the swamps of south Florida where they had REAL snakes.

The only time a snake ever excited me was when one dropped off the top of the storm door one night a few years ago when I was taking the dogs out and wrapped itself around my head before jumping off and taking off across the living room. It took me an hour to find that slippery thing and put it back outside.

Spiders are my thing. I hate spiders, especially the brown recluse that popped out of the air vent on the dash of my car while I was driving. Now THAT excited me some! Almost made me cuss before I got control of the situation.

when I was 14, my parents bought a 40-acre section of land that included the old house, barns and milking parlor for a dairy operation. One of the dairy hands was walking us through the milking parlor to show us the operation... it had about 10 stalls where the cows would come in and get hooked up to the automated milkers and have some dinner. They would operate levers to dispense the feed, which dropped down a chute into a little bowl for each cow. The guy pointed to a door in the ceiling with a small ladder attached to the wall. "Up there is where we store the feed, and it attracts rats. Be careful when you push up on that door. I once had two black snakes fall on my head."

Dad: "Yeah, I won't be going up there. In fact, I'll probably bolt and chain that shut."
