what’s the 6’ water hose for?

Horses can't breathe through their mouths like we can. The most likely places a horse will be bitten by a snake are the lower legs or the nose. Legs...no problem. If a horse is bitten on the nose, the nostrils will swell shut. The horse will suffocate and die, not from the snake bite but from lack of air. The 6' hose is to insert into one side of the nose to keep it open enough for the horse to breathe until the swelling goes down. That's the only way a copperhead kills an animal the size of a horse. The trick is to catch it before that happens. We kept pieces of water hose all over the farm. We had seven horses, and none were afraid of a snake.

Old farm Vet trick.

The 6' hose

And here I assumed you'd use it to beat the snake.
