Hi, guys. Salamander needs our prayers, as she just lost her husband. Any words of comfort or anything positive are kindly solicited on her behalf.
Thanks and God Bless, --D.J.
The VA has wonderful counselors who will come to your home to figure out death benefits for widows of veterans.
The good man who took care of VA benefits found me $7,000 that I had no idea I was entitled to .
Sal should give them a call.
Warning : You do have to produce a valid marriage certificate, or you won’t get a penny.
Beautiful prayer for all widows and widower
Thank you.
Thank You for the information. I will pass it on the Salamander right now.
Salamander please check out this Post from miserare about VA Benifits.
Thank you both.
I don’t even know if the house fire insurance will be honored as it seems he listed himself as the policy owner.
It was MY house and I gave him a place to live free when he lost his house 10 years before I married him.
I am just curb stomped now.
He cancelled my beneficiary protection without telling me years ago.
Surprise.
No benefits left at all.
Why would he say he loved me and then destroy me like this?
OMG.
I’m beaten utterly.
I was just a free ride and caretaker , it seems.
Dear one, think not of the love you have lost, but the love you gained and had every day while it was there.
I could have been angry that Mrs. Joe was taken over a year ago, but instead, thank God for the years we had together, soulmates, and for the family we built together.
Count your blessings, as hard as it may be, and proceed in faith that God will provide. He really does, you know, even when times seem their worst. You have friends here.
May The Almighty keep you and Bless you and bring you peace in your heart, as well as help you with all the technical worldly details.
I’m not sure how the laws work in MD, but if you have a marriage license, or even common law rights, then you should be the likely recipient of any benefits from that insurance policy as the surviving spouse. Others here have said to check into Social Security survivor’s benefits, and any VA survivor;s benefits. Do so. You have much on your plate, but you have that deep strength you do not even know of: call on The Almighty to carry the load, and do what you must.
May God Bless you and keep you, dear lady, and I offer my condolences. I know it hurts.
Prayers for you Salamander
Thank You, SJ. You jogged My Peabrain on a few things I’d forgotten about from when My 2nd Wife passed away.
Salamander- When My 2nd wife passed away I was in the process of trying to get Social Security Disability for neuropathy and I got denied Social Security Disability they did tell me though that she had a pension fund from some hospital she worked out that I’ve never even known about it before we got married that I was eligible for that money so go ahead and call Social Security and get that ball rolling and ask them to check for any benefits that you may have from your husband unknown to you now if they’re there they’ll find them for you tell you who it is and all that stuff I’m gonna search up some more information here there’s been drug from my little pea brain memory so I’ll be getting you more data here today.
As was mentioned already You must have a Marriage Certificate, this will one of the Key Documents needed by many places/people You will be dealing with so get a few copies made at a Copy Shop. You’re also going to be needing multiple copies of His Death Certificate so get those done also. I would suggest that You get at least 5 of each because they will be needed. AND His Birth Certificate, if You don’t have one then You’ll need to know: Location of Birth, Mother’s maiden name, Date, SS Number and possibly more. The Certificate will be in the City/County/State or Military Base if born at one. I was able to get my BC copy by applying Online. There will be Fees for All of these Documents.
Hang in there Sister we’ll help you get this crap straightened out somehow.
How does Social Security work when a spouse dies?
https://www.aarp.org/retirement/social-security/questions-answers/social-security-spouse-dies.html
Rights of Surviving Spouses
https://wiserwomen.org/resources/widowhood-fact-sheets/rights-of-surviving-spouses/
“Did you give up your rights to a survivor’s benefit?
The law provides that an employee may give up or “waive” survivor’s benefits, but only if the spouse agrees to this in writing. The pension plan administrator must provide the employee with a special form, called a “spousal consent,” that explains in clear language the effect of the waiver. The waiver form may be challenged if the survivor misunderstood the form because it was not clear, or if it was signed under pressure.”

AWESOME INFORMATION !!!
Thank You so much. This will be a HUGE help for Salamander.
Salamander- Looks like You got some help with the MAJOR problem that You’re facing.
Add to Your Homework pile.
Good info.
Also, contact your local Senior Citizen Ombudsman. (If you have them in your state.)
They are very helpful. They know how to cut thru the red tape.
Legal Aid Society will give free advice.
There are people ready and willing to help.
We got great advice from our funeral director about benefits we had never heard of. For instance, the local Korean Vets Society sent us $500, plus they came to the cemetery and performed a wonderful memorial with a 21 gun salute!
Thank You for the information.
Salamander- another 3 things for You to check out.
Heartfelt prayers for you FRiend, in such a terrible time.
Please listen to the truly helpful advice shared here, and try, hard as it might be, to take refuge in our Father’s embrace.
Dear Lord, please, hear our prayers for Sheri, bringing her comfort and strength.

You still with Us out there ?
Barely.
The wrack and ruin left to me without a will is going to be the end of me.
His son will likely come for what little I have left and finish me off.
I’m hanging on for the sake of my terminal dog and when he’s gone, there will be nothing left.
30 years of doing for him, just to be thrown to the wolves.
I know that it hurts I’ve been there too freaking many times Myself. From My Father’s death from a rare disease called Wegener’s Granulomatosis in a matter of weeks. He was as Christian as one could be and spent His 72 years on earth serving God any and every way He could. Before that My Fiancé slid off the road in a rainstorm, the car flipped over landing in a creek and She drowned, still strapped in the seatbelt. She was an excellent swimmer but She was knocked unconscious and couldn’t get out of the car. Stacey was 34 years old. I still think about Her every day. Next was Ken who I worked with in the water treatment plant for only about 8 months. He was the best Operator I ever knew teaching me things that weren’t in the books. He suddenly got liver cancer and in a few months it was everywhere including His brain. I quitmy job to be His unofficial hospice nurse and was giving Him morphine drops at 2am when He took His last breath. Ken was 52. Ken was the great-great-great grandson of the real Walker Texas Ranger. Ken always had a joke at hand or a family story. I still think about Him every day. Next, shortly after Ken was my 2nd Wife who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer shortly before we were married. After chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiation it spread to Her brain and She died before our 1st anniversary. Deborah was 58. She’s on the every day list also. Next came Mom. She had bad dementia the last few years of Her life. She died at 92 in a care center. I could write a book about Her and Dad putting up with raising me but not in this Post. Again on the daily list. Then my Brother’s Wife of 54 years from liver disease. In the first 4 years of my current (3rd) marriage my wife lost her Uncle, 2 Aunts and her Mother. All were the typical Italian Catholic Funerals. I can’t remember how many Dogs I’ve lost.
So been there, done that and lost the T-shirt or Trophy.
I’m going to be blunt here Shari.
Suck it up and fight for what’s YOURS !!! You are stronger than this !!! You know it, I know it and Your FRiends know it !!!’ So kick that can of shit out of Your yard and down the road, hell kick it into freaking orbit !!! Fight for Yourself like You fight for Your Dogs 🐾 🐕🐾
Now on to business.:
Have You gathered up any of the Paperwork I told You that would be needed ? YES or NO ?
Have You made any NEW calls to any placess see on the List I sent to You ? YES or NO ?
Has this “son” actually tried to get ANYTHING or is this in Your head and You’re using it as a wall because Your give-a-shit factor is going further downhill ? The TRUTH in Your answer please.
