Who Will be the next Chief of Naval Operations?
American Thinker ^ | 2 May, 2023 | Brent Ramsey

The nation needs and deserves the very best warrior to lead the Navy into our threatened future.

Last September, the Navy promoted and installed a new Vice Chief of Naval Operations. Then Vice Admiral Lisa Franchetti got her 4th star and was appointed to the second-highest position in the Navy. Now after a scant seven months, the betting line going around D.C. is that she will likely be the next CNO based on the identity politics track record of President Biden. When President Biden had an opportunity to appoint to the Supreme Court, before assessing anyone’s qualifications, he announced that a black woman would get that seat, and he followed up on that promise. Would an identity-based selection for the Navy’s top leader be in the best interest of the Navy and the Nation? No, the nation needs and deserves the very best warrior to lead the Navy into our threatened future.

Admiral Franchetti is a journalism graduate of Northwestern University NROTC, a non-STEM degree which itself is unusual, as the Navy strongly favors STEM degrees for officers. She has a Master’s Degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix, an online university. Her biography does not mention any war college credential. In contrast, her predecessor Admiral William Lescher had multiple commands in combat zones, was a test pilot, had multiple advanced degrees in naval technical fields and his commands won multiple combat zone merit awards. To naval professionals, for someone to have been promoted to the Navy’s highest rank and second highest position based on a NROTC commissioning source with a liberal arts degree, an online masters, no war college or combat zone credentials, would be considered inconceivable. Perhaps her success is based on a particularly spectacular service record?

It really bothers me, having grown up in a Navy family, and served myself.

Sad. What is going to be sadder still is any kind of naval warfare. We can barely navigate ships without collisions, or have a ship tied up going up in a five billion dollar burst of flame.

Crew morale is in the pits, they are spending money for expensive “green” fuel for ships, they have dropped nearly any requirement at all for physical fitness, and promoted a woman with a journalism degree to four star rank, putting her on the fast track to CNO.

I am glad my father never had to witness this. He thought Zumwalt was bad, but this business makes Zumwalt look quite good. (For the record, I don’t know for a fact that my Dad didn’t like Zumwalt...I just gathered that from the look on his face when he talked about Zumwalt...)

Judging by the Biden/Obozo White House track record the new administrator will probably be a CRT Woke expert who is a cross dressing pedo homosexual.

Maybe Sleepy Joe can nominate Pete Buttigieg. Then the Navy can name him an honorary Rear Admiral.

It’s just pathetic.

Guarantee it: when bad things happen, all the people who engineered this idiocy will be gone, the same way Barney Frank disappeared to posterity for his role in the 2008 financial crisis.

LOL, this nonsense began with Carter. He initiated a big rush of women into leadership positions. In 1978, I was an Army 2nd LT at Hahn AB in Germany. That airbase received the first woman to be a Base Commander at a tactical fighter wing. She had the attitude to go with it, too.

I was tangentially involved with the greatest dressing down of a Colonel that I ever saw. During a tac eval, there was an NBC input dropped. As had been done for at least the previous year, I was summoned to the "Eagles Nest" to advise the Wing Commander on how to proceed, a story inside the story which I will not bore you.

After I made my recommendation to the Wing Cdr, I returned to my desk. The new Base Commander asked the Wing Cdr why an Army Lieutenant was called, instead of the AF "expert", a Captain who was the Base Disaster Preparedness.

His reaction was priceless: he gave her hell for at least a couple minutes, and a lesson as to who was in command at that air base. She stormed off, not returning to the CP for at least 24 hours. Those of us in the CP loved it, she was not respected or admired.

She was shuffled off to another desk job within a year. IIRC she did make brigadier general eventually.

"In November 2020, Howard was named a volunteer member of the Joe Biden presidential transition Agency Review Team to support transition efforts related to the Defense Department. On February 12, 2021, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin appointed Howard as one of four Departmental representatives to the Commission on the Naming of Items of the Department of Defense that Commemorate the Confederate States of America or Any Person Who Served Voluntarily with the Confederate States of America."

Not at all inconceivable these days. Bet on it. Remember that the military’s top concerns are not war fighting and winning but diversity and climate.
