Transgender patients are turning to shady foreign drug websites to access sex change drugs amid fears they could be banned in Republican states.

So far, no states in America have outlawed gender-affirming care for over-18s, but at least 13 have banned it for children - and there are fears that adults could be next.

Amid the wave of bans, the trans community has been quietly circulating a guide and digital master list of hormone suppliers through social media, with links to pharmacies based in Turkey, Russia, Thailand and India.

Erin Stille has spent $300 on estrogen patches and androgen-blocking pills - used to make her more feminine - from Taiwan. While it was 'a little scary' to order the medication online at first, 'the benefits outweighed the risks,' she said.

But doctors say self-administering hormones is 'extraordinarily dangerous' because they can increase the risk of life-threatening blood clots, and there are no guarantees the drugs are legitimate.

Self-administering hormones without adequate supervision can be 'extraordinarily dangerous', especially for those taking testosterone, said Dr Robert Lash, chief medical officer at the Endocrine Society, which represents specialists who treat hormone conditions.

Although taking testosterone can help trans men develop some desired physical features, it also increases their risk of a blood clot or stroke.

Dr Lash said doctors need to closely monitor a patient's red blood cell count, lipids and liver function and adjust their dosage accordingly.

They are dangerous no matter how or where they are obtained. This transgender fad is out of control. It's just another thing that fits under the New world order demand of population control. I see it as another tool just like global warming and the attack on eating meat. If a man is having trouble with his body image the idea that he can become a female is ridiculous. They are fighting to give children sex changes at younger ages because it will be too late when they are mature enough to understand they made a mistake. Starting a 13 year old girl on hormones, steroids and puberty blockers is criminal but cutting both her breasts off at 15 is even worse. The people doing this to children should be sued until they are broke and thrown in prison for a long time.
