“...... the 14th Amendment, written to guarantee the citizenship rights of freed slaves after the Civil War, has morphed the amendment into a guarantee of birthright citizenship.”
That is what I was always taught. Because slaves were NOT considered citizen’s of the U.S. let alone even human beings.
The Naturalization part was because 8 of the signers were NOT born in the U.S. so that was to take care of all those who had arrived in the U.S. up to the point of the Constitution being written.
“48 of the 56 signers were born in America. Two were born in England (Button Gwinnett, Robert Morris), two in Ireland (George Taylor, Matthew Thornton), two in Scotland (James Wilson, John Witherspoon), one in Northern Ireland (James Smith), and one in Wales (Francis Lewis).”
Unfortunately those who wrote up the Constitution were to vague in many areas, and did not foresee how what they wrote would be twisted. I am sure though they DID NOT WANT children born in the U.S. from illegals to be able someday to be President of the U.S. who’s parents are loyal to the country of their birth. I have watched so many videos of the illegals coming across carrying their countries flag. They are not coming to be Americans, they are coming to take over. :-(
