This doesn’t have to be “self aware”.
This doesn’t have to qualify as “true artificial intelligence”.
The software is now at a transformative point for society. That’s really the point.
Think about the automobile in 1920. It transformed society. There was no reason to ask if cars were “self aware”. Obviously not. No one would ask the question. Why would they? But cars were transformative.
The “AI” software we have right now is simply an bunch of algorithms that create decision trees. Kind of ho-hum in a way. Still, they will determine what you see, where media goes, how financial markets react, which jobs become automated (who becomes unemployed). This is going to be hugely transformative in the next 5 or 10 years.
Anyone who dwells on the point that “It’s not really conscious” is really missing the essential point.
Agreed. The current LLM / AI is so far ahead of the average person now. It doesn’t have to be aware to radically change the way the world operates.
My concern is that the AI will probably be programmed to slant to the left. That it will be used to influence what people believe and especially how they vote.
