How was “gender dysphoria” treated before they started doing hormone shots and surgery on people?

Serious question. Gender dysphoria is a recognized mental health condition by the psychiatric profession. How and why has it come to pass, that now we do these medical interventions on people, when they were not done in the past?

I’m thinking they got mental health counseling of some kind, but don’t know for sure. But it does seem like a recent thing, to perform surgery on people, with a mental health problem. It seems whatever can be done with these people, is better than performing irreversible surgeries and flooding their body with hormones which are not intended for someone of their biological sex.

GD is recognized and legit — in so far as anything from head shrinkers (aside JPeterson) is concerned. However, such a diagnosis takes weeks -to- months. It is not like “died with Covid” crappola.
It is also <1% of those claiming it now.

The explosion in numbers is the result of corrupt “diagnosis” and DrMengele type med professionals chasing the bucks associated with the mutilation work and life time drugs afterwards. These are the same med profesionals who signed off on “died with Covid” for the same reason, money.

Am not an expert on that field or subject, but once upon a time it was a narrow field of practice, treatment was heavy on the psychiatric side. Lots of counseling. And if staff agreed that it was a legit step to take, hormones would be allowed, with monitoring of effects along with continued counseling. Surgery was seen as a last, radical step only for certain circumstances, with continued care afterwards that was still heavy on the mental counseling. That sort of treatment strategy was planned out by experts the way it was done for the sort of reasons we now see exploding all over the place. They evidently knew what sort of dynamite they were working with and operated under concerns for the liability not only unto themselves and their practice but society at large as well. Evidently that's no longer an issue, safeguards are dismissed. Now it's step right up, get your hormone prescription and an appointment with a surgeon in 30 minutes or less! Use the drive-thru for faster service! One day, someway, somehow, there's gonna have to be a price paid for this level of individual as well as collective reckless endangerment that's been unleashed.
