Mauser also told CNN he had been told by Monahan there were mulitple vehicles which pulled into his driveway, including a motorcycle, and that they were “revving engines [and] coming up the driveway at a high rate of speed.”
He claimed this “created an atmosphere and a fear that there was menace going on,” for Monahan.
Mauser said he was informed of Gillis’ death and the charge his client was facing after he made contact with authorities. It was then he made arrangements for Monahan to surrender, the attorney said.
Monahan is accused of firing from his porch after the car carrying Gillis and her three pals turned into his driveway at about 10 p.m., one of which struck the 20-year-old as the car she was in was on its way to exit the property, according to the sheriff.
The friends fled the property and called 911 from the neighboring town of Salem, but Gillis was already dead by the time help arrived.
The sheriff previously said Monahan had no reason to open fire on the vehicle – noting no one had exited the car in the driveway before the shots rang out.

Good flick. It surely didn't do anything to raise the FBI's reputation from the morass it is currently in.
There’s always more to the story.
Stay tuned!
Sure didn’t. There was a statement at the end of the film that said something along the lines that this case was used as training so that it didn’t happen again. More like they use it as an example on how to railroad people.
That kind of behavior could be considered the beginning (dropoff) of a home invasion.
These people were not just using the end of the driveway to do a y-turn. I am sure people would secure their driveways from this crap if cities did not have ordinances not allowing such precentative measures.
Lawlessness is greztly increasing and they better allow people to defend themselves and their land and property from emboldened idiots pampered by the state.
He shouldn’t have to pay. Society does nothing about all the aholes it creates. It protects the aholes. Says you can’t touch the aholes.
True. Defending man always painted as bad.
Wonder how far they drove before calling for help?
No doubt, which is why law abiding people are on edge. They witnessed the BLM riots as the police did absolutely nothing to these thug criminals.
SOB needs to be put away. FOREVER.
As does anyone who misuses a firearm.
Misuse of a gun should be automatic life in jail without possibility of parole, be it holding up a small store or shooting when or at someone you shouldn’t.
I strongly support RKBA, but there is not, never has been, nor can there be any excuse for discharging any firearm wrongly. All gun crime should be punished with the utmost severity, regardless of race, context, age, or location.
What is the explanation? I sure missed it.
