I carry, but I live in a conservative county in rural Texas.
In most democrat-controlled cities anywhere in the U.S., it is no longer a matter of "It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by six." Even if you clearly defend yourself against an armed attacker, if you are the "wrong" race you will be charged, tried and convicted by a jury of the attacker's peers, regardless of the facts. I suppose it is still better than being dead, but if I lived in a democrat-controlled city I would work to become very, very proficient in unarmed combat and the use of a taser.
That is one of a million reasons why I have chosen to live in a conservative county in rural Texas for most of my adult life.
Nobody I know would even involve LE if there was a self-defense shooting in our rural area. Nobody talks either. Consequently, we have zero home invasions, no assaults, very few robberies.
The threat of disappearing is much greater than any possible sentence issued by a court.
