Deanna “Violet” Coco was sentenced last week to a non-parole period of eight months, with a total sentence up to 15 months. She was denied bail.
It stems from her arrest after blockading a lane of traffic on the Sydney Harbour Bridge in April, as part of a Fireproof Australia climate action.
Fireproof Australia describes itself as “a politically unaffiliated group of ordinary citizens taking action to force our government to respond urgently to the climate crisis”...
Human Rights Watch has called the sentencing of Ms Coco “incredibly alarming”; the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly has condemned the sentence...

District court judge Timothy Gartelmann on Tuesday granted bail to 32-year-old Deanna “Violet” Coco, who in December was handed a 15-month jail sentence with a non-parole period of eight months.
Coco was the first person to be jailed under controversial New South Wales laws passed earlier this year that introduced a possible two-year prison sentence or $22,000 fine for people who block major roads, bridges or ports...

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to charges including disrupting vehicles on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, possessing a distress signal in a public place, using an authorised explosive not as prescribed, and resisting or hindering a police officer...
Judge Williams rejected the Crown’s suggestion Ms Coco was a “danger to the community” and had “no insight into her offending”.
He set aside the jail sentence and placed Ms Coco on a 12-month conditional release order.
Her convictions will remain, while the charge of possessing a distress signal was withdrawn...
The court heard Ms Coco had engaged in nine separate incidents of similar offending across three states in the two years leading up to the bridge protest and the Crown argued her behaviour had “escalated in extremity”.
But Mr Blair said her history was being “blown out of proportion” and there could be no doubt she was motivated by genuine beliefs about climate change.

This tells me that those ruling the UK are weak and unable to wage war against those (Chinese insurgents?) who are are vying for control of a key part of the national energy.
