This is the big question that led Abraham out - the question we seem to keep getting wrong.
While infinitely vast, I see the "one" concept in the simple sense of the footnote about the Messianic soul round-up:
The soul of Mashiach has two dimensions. One is the enlightenment that all of creation will enjoy; and one is that there will be an individual (or a couple) that will master mind and master heart this giant planetary-scale project of coordinating all of humanity into a single, smoothly operating organism, that will run as efficiently as a persons body.
According to Kabbala, all of humanity, actually all of creation, is really a single partzuf, a single Adam. In fact, one main feature of messianic consciousness is a greater awareness of our oneness in this regard.
The distinguishing feature of this individual (or couple) is that he become the point of entry for the soul of Mashiach. The highest tip of our world contacts the lowest toenails of the hovering soul of Mashiach, and the highest tip of our world is the person Mashiach.
Nothing is random because everything is coordinated as one. Those trying to craft their own version end up seeing "ones" that are a dysfunctional corruption of the basic reality on the ground.
That's where most would see "gibberish" and then mock and dismiss, yet singularity is the simple concept of simple concepts. That's why I think the above description is a good one.
Sort of like how things would work fine in life if "It ain't complicated" were taken to heart.
To add hundreds of numbers together is a slow and tedious process, but it's not complicated or confusing in the least. The procedure is simple. Confusion can result from a lack of organization, not that the process is confusing.
Lots of plain data is abused and rejected when people already decide what the conclusion or answer is "supposed" to be, and then go off to make it all "work". Only it doesn't. Then data that doesn't fit the "known" conclusion is disregarded.
Pretty much what you had described.
Then when honest observers see what's there for real, not coming at reality with pre-determined "truth", truth looks crazy to those who have already decided that it is something else entirely.
Even little kids learn the foolishness of pounding a puzzle piece into a jigsaw puzzle in order to make it fit.
Where consensus is king, reality had better conform, or else.
2 + 2 = 4
Most would agree, *not* because it's a consensus, but because the process is known and understood by each individual.
However, if most believed that 2 + 2 = 4 because the teacher said so, or because everyone else agrees, no good. Without bothering to understand the fundamental principle, a person could then believe that 2 + 3 = 6, or 3 = 1 if everyone around him insisted, even with clever "proof", or enough pressure. This serves to identify those who are not on track to become builders of anything, unless they change their ways. The real proof is in the results.
While everone else is busy arguing about what truth is, the guy who really knows the right math is the one who builds the house.

It occurred to me that Joseph -- being associated with the unicorn (re'em etym. theories aside) -- wouldn't have had a good outcome in the usual understanding of the song. Everyone assumes that those unicorns died in the Flood. Hmmm... see what I mean? Dead for sure! Made me pay closer attention to the lyrics., because I never know what I might have missed.
It says that

And the waters came down and sort of floated them away

Where were these waters, exactly? Still in the sky? It *doesn't* say that an ocean or flood floated or washed them away. Floating also applies to balloons, bubbles, clouds...
If Joseph and his merry band of dreamers had been playing on the rocks as if they didn't need to be rescued aboard Noah's Ark, then they must have had wings. Alicorn: the word for a winged unicorn that is also the word for the horn itself, especially in alchemy.
