"Every day I wake up with the hope of going back to school. They [the Taliban] keep saying they will open schools. But it's been almost two years now. I don't believe them. It breaks my heart," says 17-year-old Habiba.
She blinks and bites her lip trying hard not to tear up.
Habiba and her former classmates Mahtab and Tamana are among hundreds of thousands of teenage girls who have been barred from attending secondary school in most of Afghanistan by the Taliban - the only country to take such action.
One-and-a-half years since their lives were brought to a halt, their grief is still raw.

Reaction from the NOW Gang....*crickets*
I’m sure American feminists will get right on it.
They should declare they are transitioning to men if they really want the support of Fed.gov
A motivated self-taught student will learn at a significantly higher rate than a bunch of boys in a class where much of their curriculum is based on the Koran.
I think they can use actual books. The internet is especially bad for girls these days.
Feminists will try to get them on Onlyfans.
But they are demanding American-style public schools!
And say they are Ukrainians.
American feminists are ok with it because they hate traditional American values just like the Taliban. Of course, they don’t want to live under the Taliban, but they are okay with THEM being our Taliban.
Do you mean American schools with tranny strip shows and gender dysphoria support programs...schools where math and science are racist? ;-)
Even worse, women who worked at the schools lost their jobs. The article refers to a widow who must beg on the streets now to feed her children.
The article says a woman opened a library for women only, but the Taliban shut it down. But, she said they will “continue to find other means,” so maybe they’ll try an underground library... until the Taliban stops that.
Afghanistan did not restrict women from education until the Taliban terrorists took over the country in the 1990’s.
Do homeschooling like we do in America ladies. Just login to khan Academy. You’ll be fine. Also, no one cares. We’ve sacrificed enough for your shithole country.
I once sat next to an Afghan woman on a flight into Kabul. She found every quran verse that justified education for girls and women. I subsequently visited her impressive school of 600 female students.
I have no idea if she escaped the country, was murdered, or somehow remained.
They probably would not want to go to the schools now that they are under Taliban control.
I sympathize. I grew up in an era when many families thought it was a waste of money to send their girls to college. High school was enough.
In spite of my parents and siblings’ open discouragement, I managed to pay for and attend university and earn a doctorate in a STEM field.
I see stuff from the 1800s encouraging girl’s education.
Good for you. Can you say what field it was in? There may be more males in STEM fields, but there are some women who have amazing talent. The first person to win two Nobel Prizes was a woman. (Physics and chemistry, not “Peace”) And her daughter won a Nobel Prize of her own.
