The items I posted in #25 all weigh very heavily against mandatory military service in the U.S.
We are at the point now where anyone who doesn't want to go won't have to go. You'll have 90% of the population coming up with various half-assed "disability" claims that will keep them out of uniform.
The political and cultural forces required to support a military draft disappeared once it became commonplace for draft dodgers to be elected and appointed to the highest offices in the U.S.
You're never going to see compulsory military service in your lifetime here in this country.
It is an interesting theory that government can’t make people do what they don’t want to do anymore and that we won’t be in any major wars again.
