I’m thinking that the US might go the way of other countries that the young people have to do 2 years of military service as part of their education.

You'll notice that most of the countries that adopt that policy are ones that hardly ever get involved in real military engagements.

I hadn’t thought about it but yes, you’re right about that. One thing I notice is that China doesn’t get involved militarily in conflicts across the world. But they maintain a huge military presence and it keeps expanding. Maybe the US should be doing that.
