An employee at a Family Dollar in Arizona was arrested for fatally shooting a shoplifter who slugged him in the face when the worker asked him to leave, reports said.
The employee, Kevin Salas Madrid, encountered the alleged serial shoplifter inside the Phoenix store near 68th Avenue and Indian School Road just before 8 p.m. Wednesday and warned the suspect to stop stealing and exit the dollar store, according to KTVK/KPHO.
The pair then began arguing when the shoplifter punched Madrid in the face, at which point the store worker pulled a gun and opened fire, the outlet reported. He allegedly shot the suspect 10 times and continued to unleash bullets even as the man was on the floor, FOX 10 Phoenix reported.

Maybe, after being hit in the head, the victim temporarily lost his sense of time and his ability to count bullets.
That’s what I’d be arguing to my fellow jurors, anyway.
“Have you ever been hit REALLY hard in the head?...”
All the shoplifter had to do was LEAVE, and he’d still be alive.
Anything that happened after HE initiated the violence is on him.

The women on the jury might still like him, though. đ
“the shoplifter punched Madrid in the face”
A serious miscalculation.

Depends on the state. Fear of âserious bodily harm,â is grounds for lethal response in some states.
Getting punched in the face or head can be deadly. His weapon was his fist and the desire to throw it to injure Madrid.
Not a current law enforcement officer but a citizen in danger while others were in danger. In many such cases the others in the store are shot, taken hostage or in danger from an emotional criminal.
This is about police but is interesting....

I have excerpted here:
âI donât care how good a shot you are,â says Avery, âif your life is threatened youâre going to go for the surer thing first and worry about your assailantâs life being saved second.
If a guy is running at me with a blade, the last thing Iâm going to be thinking is âIâm going to shoot him in the arm.ââ Hence, shooting for center mass may become a psychological default.
âą Poor shot placement is bound to increase. Even when officers are trying to shoot center mass, they often miss.
Lewinski recalls a case he was involved in where an officer firing under high stress just 5 feet from an offender failed to hit him at all with the first 5 rounds and connected with the next four only because the suspect moved into his line of fire.
âHitting an arm or a leg on a moving suspect with surgical precision will be virtually impossible,â Avery asserts. âI could probably count on one hand the individuals who can make that kind of shot under the pressure of their life on the line. Expecting that level of performance by police officers on an agency-wide basis is ludicrous.â Misses may well go on to injure or kill someone else.
As long as the shots were not in his back.
He kept coming at me. His punch in my head made it difficult to think..

What's the problem here?
You should give your name, that’s acceptable to me. ....however, the second thing that should come out of your mouth is “I was in fear for my life.” Then the third thing should be “I need my lawyer.” Then the fourth thing should be “I feel I need to go to a hospital immediately.” Then, shut up.,
Single punch can kill. And more can kill if the victim has a hidden health weakness problem.
